Meet Dr. Yu.....

Leisure Yu, MD, PhD
Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Specializing in
Sports Medicine and  Total Joint Replacement

Dr. Yu uses a computer assisted Navigation System for total joint replacement surgery. The navigation system helps to align hip or knee implants by using a 3-D imaging system. The system allows for intra-operative adjustments that come within a degree of normal alignment.

Dr. Yu is the first FDA certified physycian in Loma Linda to use the Oxford Unicompartmental Knee System, allowing for a more enhanced procedure in dealing effectively with unicompartment anteromedial osteoarthritis. The Oxford implant is based on predecessors which achieved 98% survival at 10 years. The operation can arrest the progress of the disease in other compartments of the joint and provide long term relief of symptoms due to the unique spherically designed femoral components, made of cast cobalt chromium molybdenum alloy giving the implant durability and biocompatibility.

Dr. Yu has started a new study on Anterior Cruciate Ligaments (ACL). He is working in conjunction with the University of Missouri-Columbia, to conduct research on advancing ACL reconstruction using human donor allograft transplantation. The study started in January of 2005.

An expert in adult and pediatric sports medicine, Dr. Yu is a doctor to athletes around the globe. He has traveled extensively with the United States Figure Skating Association to World and International Events as doctor to the USFSA Team.

From his earliest days in medical school, when he was accepted into the accelerated program at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Dr. Yu has excelled in his field.  From Buffalo, he moved to Boston where he earned the title of Chief Resident during his orthopaedic surgery residency in the Combined Harvard Orthopaedic Program at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Yu completed fellowships in sports medicine and spine at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston, and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical chemistry at the Erie County Labs in New York.  He earned his PhD in Biochemistry with Honors from SUNY Buffalo.

Dr. Yu has served as a treating physician to competitive/professional:  figure skaters, skiers, gymnasts, dancers, cyclists, runners, body builders, and ball players.  He is a World Team Physician for the U.S. Figure Skating Association and has served the Special Olympics and overseas medical missions.  He is involved in cartilage regeneration research and in educating orthopaedic residents in innovative cartilage and meniscus procedures.

Dr. Leisure Yu is a Workers' Compensation physician. He is licensed for QME, AME, IME, IMR, and ACOEM cases. He has worked with the California state Workers' Compensation (WC) system for over 15 years, and is currently accepting new WC patients. If you have any questions, or would like to transfer your WC case to the care of Dr. Leisure Yu, please call us at (909) 799-3838. We will be happy to assist you with your claim.
